US delays Patriot missile co-production deal with Ukraine beyond winter
A US-Ukraine agreement to jointly produce Patriot air defense missiles will not be finalized before winter, according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
A long-term agreement between the United States and Ukraine on the joint production of Patriot air defense interceptor missiles will not be finalized before this winter, according to US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Whitaker stated that while the complex Patriot deal remains delayed, Washington is actively working with Kyiv and European allies on the joint production of other air defense equipment.
The delay comes as Ukraine faces urgent defense requirements to protect its national energy grid from expected Russian strikes during the winter months. Despite the postponed timeline for Patriot interceptor manufacturing, allied efforts remain focused on expanding Ukraine's domestic defense production capacity and delivering alternative air defense systems to bolster regional security.
