Diplomatic efforts to reopen Strait of Hormuz continue amid conflicting demands
Negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz continue as Donald Trump suggests a quick deal is possible, while Iran insists the waterway will not reopen without US concessions.
Negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz remain active, with United States President Donald Trump suggesting an agreement could be reached swiftly while describing the ongoing diplomatic process as akin to a "game of chess." Although Washington noted progress in Oman-mediated discussions, Trump also downplayed the urgency of a deal, pointing to Iran's severe domestic economic pressures.
Tehran maintained that any resolution depends strictly on American concessions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi indicated that while a maritime framework with Oman is nearing completion, the waterway will not reopen without the lifting of sanctions, the cessation of military threats, and compensation for war damages. Meanwhile, parallel regional diplomacy continued in Rome with a seventh round of mediated talks between Israeli and Lebanese delegations.
