Gaza ceasefire transition faces obstacles amid Israeli cabinet rejection and strikes
The US-led Peace Council initiated phase two of the Gaza ceasefire framework despite an Israeli cabinet rejection of proposed terms and continued strikes in Gaza City.
The US-led Peace Council has announced the transition to the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire framework, which outlines a phased Israeli military withdrawal and the transfer of administrative control to a Palestinian technocratic body. Initial infrastructural preparations are also moving forward, including a construction tender for facilities planned to house Moroccan personnel.
However, significant diplomatic and security hurdles persist. Israel's Security Cabinet formally rejected a 15-point roadmap drafted by Egypt and Hamas, notifying Washington that the current proposal remains unacceptable. Meanwhile, hostilities have continued on the ground, with an Israeli drone strike hitting a cafe in Gaza City, killing six Palestinians, including a child, and injuring more than 14 others.
