US and Israel pause Iran strikes as regional diplomatic talks resume
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a pause on military strikes against Iran as regional actors pursue a new diplomatic agreement.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary suspension of U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iran, citing requests from Tehran and Middle Eastern nations attempting to negotiate a new accord. Speaking from Camp David and via social media, Trump asserted that Iran is "almost defeated," while warning that military operations could resume if a deal is not concluded swiftly. He added that Washington maintains extensive military reserves.
The diplomatic developments follow recent engagements in which U.S. forces intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles directed at American troops stationed in the region. In response to Washington's conditions, acting Iranian Defence Minister Majid ibn al-Reza stated that Tehran views all U.S. threats as credible and remains in full combat readiness. Following indications of potential diplomatic progress, Asian crude oil prices fell by over five percent.
