Russian strikes hit Ukrainian cities and energy grid, leaving eight dead
A widespread Russian missile and drone attack killed at least eight people across Ukraine and caused major power outages in five regions, damaging energy infrastructure.
Russian forces launched a widespread overnight air attack across Ukraine using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, resulting in at least eight deaths and more than 50 injuries. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi confirmed that residential areas and civilian infrastructure were hit, affecting several cities including Kyiv, Lviv, and Kryvyi Rih.
The bombardment struck energy facilities across five regions, causing severe power outages. National grid operator Ukrenergo highlighted Sumy Oblast as the hardest-hit region, where energy equipment damage left the regional capital and nearby areas without electricity. Western Ukrainian air defense systems were deployed to counter incoming cruise missiles over Lviv.
Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that initial findings indicate Russian forces fired a North Korean ballistic missile at Radushne near Kryvyi Rih, pending official forensic verification.
