US imposes new tariffs on 60 trading partners following Supreme Court ruling
The US has implemented new import tariffs of up to 12.5 percent on 60 trading partners following the expiration of a previous global trade regime.
US President Donald Trump has implemented new import duties ranging from 10 to 12.5 percent on 60 trading partners, including European Union member states, Canada, the United Kingdom, and China.
The White House justified the measures by citing inadequate actions against forced labor by the targeted nations. However, legal experts and key international trade partners have questioned the legal rationale and underlying motivations behind the decision. Under the new framework, imports from the EU, Canada, and the UK are subject to a 10 percent tariff, while other countries face higher levies.
