US charges five alleged Russian agents over global murder and sabotage plots
US prosecutors have charged five alleged Russian intelligence operatives over plots targeting supporters of Ukraine, while a German court convicted a man in a related parcel bomb scheme.
United States federal prosecutors have unsealed charges against five alleged Russian intelligence operatives accused of orchestrating a global campaign of surveillance, sabotage, and targeted killings against supporters of Ukraine.
According to indictments unsealed in New York, the suspects recruited individuals across Europe and North America to target individuals aligned with Kyiv, including involvement in a June 2024 assault in Prague. Federal officials stated that all five accused men remain at large.
In a related development, a regional court in Stuttgart, Germany, convicted a Ukrainian national for participating in a Russian-backed plot involving explosive packages. Prosecutors revealed the network dispatched parcels fitted with GPS trackers from Germany to Ukraine in an effort to disrupt European security and erode public trust.
