US charges alleged Russian operatives over Western assassination plots
US prosecutors charged five alleged Russian agents over assassination plots, while a German court convicted a man over a parcel bomb scheme.
United States prosecutors have unsealed an indictment charging five alleged members of a Russian intelligence network with conspiring to carry out targeted assassinations and sabotage across North America and Europe. Federal authorities state that the operatives recruited individuals to surveil and execute attacks against targets supporting Ukraine, including a June 2024 incident in Prague. All five defendants remain at large.
Concurrently, a regional court in Stuttgart, Germany, convicted a Ukrainian citizen for participating in a parcel bomb scheme linked to Russian state entities. German prosecutors established that the plot involved shipping packages containing GPS trackers and auto parts from Germany to Ukraine to disrupt public security.
