Ukraine faces growing internal debates over conscription reforms, draft evasion penalties, and strategic defense policy.

Ukraine's internal debate over conscription and defense strategy has deepened following fresh calls for reform and controversial public statements. Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and military commentators emphasized the need to address root structural problems in the mobilization process, including military medical commissions and deferment procedures, to create a fairer system.

In contrast, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak defended punitive measures, arguing that draft evaders should face restrictions such as frozen bank accounts and not comfortably access social benefits. Street-level enforcement incidents continue to highlight growing domestic tensions surrounding conscription.

Meanwhile, diplomatic discussions flared after Ambassador Valerii Zaluzhnyi remarked during a diplomats' meeting that Ukraine would "never" join NATO, sparking widespread debate among analysts and officials over future security guarantees.
