Ukraine is expanding domestic weapons manufacturing, including ballistic missiles and glide bombs, to address air defense shortages and delays in Western equipment deliveries.

Ukraine is working to expand its domestic arms production as heavy Russian ballistic missile strikes highlight vulnerabilities in national air defenses. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that two local defense firms are developing indigenous ballistic missiles, though technical hurdles remain before mass production can begin. Additionally, licensing agreements to manufacture U.S. Patriot systems locally face bureaucratic delays, postponing deployment by one to several years.

In response to immediate shortages, Kyiv is procuring the "Equalizer" glide bomb system. Developed by DG Industry and incubator Brave1, the guidance kit converts conventional bombs into precision-guided munitions compatible with both legacy Soviet and Western aircraft. Analysts note that boosting local defense manufacturing is essential for long-term sustainability as Western interceptor deliveries lag behind defensive requirements.
