Ukrainian defense developers are advancing domestic missiles and glide bomb kits as local production of Patriot systems faces multi-year bureaucratic delays.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that establishing local production of Patriot air defense systems under U.S. licensing will take from 12 months to several years due to bureaucratic hurdles. The delay leaves Ukraine exposed to escalating Russian ballistic missile strikes targeting vital infrastructure.

To bridge this defensive shortfall and reduce dependence on Western military aid, Ukrainian firms are pursuing domestic alternatives. Local defense companies are working on indigenous ballistic missiles capable of striking long-range targets, though technical challenges remain before mass manufacturing can begin. Additionally, Ukrainian forces are adopting the newly tested "Equalizer" glide bomb kit, developed by DG Industry with Brave1 support, which converts standard unguided bombs into precision-guided munitions compatible with Soviet-era and Western aircraft.
