Ukraine is expanding domestic arms manufacturing, including indigenous ballistic missiles and glide bomb modules, amid delays in securing US licensing for Patriot systems.

Ukrainian defense companies are accelerating the development of indigenous weapons to bridge critical gaps in air defense and precision strike capabilities.

President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that obtaining licenses from the United States to locally produce Patriot air defense systems could take from one to several years due to regulatory procedures. Consequently, two Ukrainian firms are working on indigenous ballistic missiles, although technological hurdles hinder immediate mass production.

To address urgent battlefield requirements, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are adopting the locally designed "Equalizer" glide bomb kit. Developed by DG Industry alongside the Brave1 technology cluster, the module retrofits standard unguided bombs into long-range precision weapons compatible with both Soviet-era aircraft and Western platforms, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign military aid.
