Ukrainian prosecutors have put a Russian soldier on trial for rape, while investigators charged a deserter from Azovstal and a court sentenced a Lyman resident for treason.

Ukrainian authorities are advancing legal actions regarding war crimes and treason linked to the Russian invasion.

In a landmark case, prosecutors have brought Russian captive Serhiy Karpilovych to trial, alleging he repeatedly raped a civilian woman over two months in the Donetsk region. Karpilovych denied the allegations during an interview in detention, claiming the encounter was consensual.

Concurrently, the State Bureau of Investigation issued a notice of suspicion in absentia to a former Ukrainian border guard. Investigators allege he abandoned his position at Mariupol's Azovstal plant in 2022 to serve as a mortar commander for Russian-backed forces.

Additionally, a Donetsk regional court sentenced a 36-year-old Lyman resident to 15 years in prison with property confiscation for high treason after he transmitted military coordinates to Russian contacts following the town's liberation.
