Ukraine is ramping up domestic arms production, including ballistic missiles and glide bombs, as Patriot manufacturing faces multi-year delays.

Ukraine is accelerating efforts to manufacture domestic weaponry to counter intensifying Russian ballistic strikes and decrease reliance on foreign arms supplies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that establishing local production of U.S.-designed Patriot air defense systems will take between 12 months and several years, citing licensing requirements from Washington and complex administrative procedures.

To address current air defense vulnerabilities, Ukraine is pursuing indigenous offensive and defensive capabilities. Two domestic defense contractors are developing native ballistic missiles, though technical obstacles currently hinder immediate mass manufacturing. Additionally, the Ukrainian military is acquiring the locally developed "Equalizer" glide bomb kit. Created through the Brave1 innovation platform, the system converts standard unguided munitions into long-range precision weapons compatible with both Soviet-designed and Western fighter jets. Analysts note that scaling up domestic defense manufacturing remains essential as Russian attacks continue targeting critical national energy infrastructure.
