Ukraine fortifies a 300km defensive line, while Russian President Putin warns of retaliation over ship seizures and analyst Andrei Soldatov notes expanding FSB power.

Ukrainian forces have established a 300-kilometre fortified defensive line extending from Izium to Orikhiv, according to findings by open-source intelligence analyst Clément Molin. The defensive system features dozens of fortified strongholds, anti-tank trenches, and camouflaged positions arranged across wide barrier corridors to slow Russian advances.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioned Western governments of potential retaliatory measures over the impoundment of Russian commercial vessels, describing the maritime seizures as "piracy" during an address aboard a naval warship.

On Russia's domestic front, investigative journalist Andrei Soldatov reported that the Federal Security Service (FSB) has acquired unprecedented authority since the 2022 invasion began. Soldatov noted that the Kremlin increasingly relies on the security agency to oversee wartime intelligence, suppress public dissent, and maintain regime stability.
