Ukraine accelerates domestic missile production and glide bomb integration to counter severe air defense shortages and Western licensing delays.

Ukraine is accelerating domestic defense manufacturing to address critical vulnerabilities to Russian ballistic missile attacks and offset foreign aid constraints. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that bureaucratic processes and U.S. licensing requirements will delay the local production of Patriot air defense systems by 12 months to several years. Meanwhile, two Ukrainian companies are developing native ballistic missiles, though technological hurdles currently prevent immediate mass production.

To bridge immediate capability gaps, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are procuring the domestic "Equalizer" glide bomb module. Developed through the Brave1 defense initiative, the conversion kit transforms unguided bombs into precision munitions compatible with Soviet-era aircraft and Western fighter jets, aiming to lessen reliance on Western military supplies.
