Ukraine is expanding domestic weapons production, including glide bombs and ballistic missiles, to address critical air defense shortages and bureaucratic delays in foreign arms licensing.

Ukraine is attempting to address critical air defense shortages and long-term vulnerabilities to Russian ballistic missile attacks by expanding domestic military production. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that two domestic firms are developing native ballistic missiles, though technological challenges continue to delay mass production.

In addition, efforts to manufacture U.S.-designed Patriot air defense systems locally under licensing agreements face significant bureaucratic obstacles, with deployment expected to take from 12 months to several years. To bridge immediate capability gaps and mitigate reliance on Western military aid, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are procuring the "Equalizer" glide bomb module. Developed by DG Industry through the Brave1 initiative, the kit converts standard unguided aviation bombs into precision munitions compatible with both Soviet-era aircraft and modern Western fighter jets.
