Ukraine is ramping up domestic production of ballistic missiles and glide bomb kits to mitigate air defense shortages following intensified Russian strikes.

Ukraine is accelerating efforts to produce indigenous missiles and precision munitions as intense Russian ballistic strikes expose critical gaps in Western-supplied air defenses. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that two domestic firms are developing ballistic missiles, though technical challenges remain before mass production can begin. Furthermore, securing licenses and navigating bureaucratic hurdles to build Patriot air defense systems locally is expected to take up to several years.

To address urgent capability gaps, Ukrainian forces are adopting the domestically produced "Equalizer" glide bomb kit, developed by DG Industry and Brave1, which converts unguided bombs into standoff precision weapons. Despite these technological developments, defense analysts warn that Ukraine faces a prolonged window of ballistic vulnerability while local defense manufacturing scales up.
