Ukraine is ramping up domestic defense production, including ballistic missiles and glide bomb kits, to address air defense shortages and delays in Western weapon licensing.

Ukraine is seeking to strengthen its air defense and long-range capabilities through domestic production as bureaucratic delays complicate the deployment of American Patriot systems. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, securing U.S. licenses and establishing local Patriot manufacturing will require between one and several years.

In response to frequent Russian ballistic missile strikes, Ukrainian defense companies are working to develop native ballistic missiles. However, technological challenges currently prevent immediate mass production. To address near-term shortages, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are acquiring the newly tested "Equalizer" glide bomb conversion kit. Developed by DG Industry and the Brave1 incubator, the system converts unguided munitions into precision-guided weapons compatible with both Soviet-era jets and Western aircraft.

Analysts note these domestic initiatives aim to mitigate a prolonged period of vulnerability while Western air defense supplies remain limited.
