Ukraine is accelerating domestic missile and glide bomb production to address delays in Western air defense deliveries and counter Russian attacks.

Ukraine is increasing efforts to produce domestic weaponry to address severe shortages in Western air defense systems and mitigate ongoing Russian ballistic missile attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that establishing local production of U.S.-licensed Patriot interceptors could take from 12 months to several years due to regulatory delays. To bridge this gap, two Ukrainian companies are currently developing indigenous ballistic missiles, although technological hurdles remain before mass production can begin.

Concurrently, the Ukrainian military is procuring the locally produced "Equalizer" guidance system. Developed by DG Industry and the Brave1 defense cluster, the wing and guidance kit converts standard unguided bombs into precision glide munitions. Compatible with Soviet-era fighters and Western platforms like the F-16, the system aims to enhance long-range strike capabilities while reducing reliance on foreign military aid.
