Public debate in Ukraine intensifies over military mobilization enforcement, institutional reforms, and Valerii Zaluzhnyi's comments on NATO membership.

Public debate in Ukraine has intensified over draft enforcement, military reform, and the nation's strategic future. Tensions have mounted following violent clashes between draft evaders and mobilization officers during street checks.

Addressing the crisis, presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak argued that draft evaders "should not feel comfortable in society," advocating punitive measures such as freezing bank accounts. Conversely, former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and military commentator Pavlo Kazarin called for structural reforms to address root causes, emphasizing improvements to medical examination boards and deferment systems.

Meanwhile, former Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi sparked widespread discussion after asserting that Ukraine will "never join NATO, unfortunately." His remarks drew mixed reactions, reopening debates regarding the effectiveness of Western military doctrines and Ukraine's long-term security integration.
