Ukrainian officials propose contrasting approaches to mobilization reform as public debate grows over draft enforcement and NATO prospects.

Ukrainian officials and commentators are proposing contrasting measures to address draft evasion and military recruitment. Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak advocated for financial restrictions, arguing that blocking bank accounts would compel draft evaders to comply. Meanwhile, former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov and military journalist Pavlo Kazarin emphasized systemic reforms, including overhauled medical commissions and clearer deferment rules, to make recruitment fairer.

The debate comes amid growing tension surrounding street draft checks by military recruitment centers. Separately, public discussion intensified following remarks by Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who expressed skepticism regarding Ukraine's prospects of joining NATO, questioning the alliance's military doctrines.
