Ukraine constructs 300-kilometre defence line as Putin warns West over vessel seizures

Ukraine has established a 300 km defensive line against Russian advances, while Vladimir Putin warns the West over ship seizures and the FSB expands its domestic role.
Ukraine has constructed an extensive 300-kilometre fortified defensive line running between Izium and Orikhiv to counter Russian offensive operations, according to open-source intelligence analyst Clément Molin. The defensive network incorporates anti-tank ditches, camouflaged strongpoints, and approximately 67 reinforced positions across obstacle belts reaching up to 100 metres wide.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of retaliatory measures against Western nations following the confiscation of Russian commercial vessels, condemning the actions as "piracy" while attending naval drills.
Separately, investigative analyst Andrei Soldatov reported that Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has expanded its domestic authority significantly since 2022, noting the Kremlin's growing dependence on security agencies to oversee public sentiment and safeguard regime stability.
