Ukraine balances draft enforcement tensions with military modernization efforts

Public pushback against recruitment efforts has escalated, leading to occasional violent confrontations during routine street checks. Presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak has supported stringent measures against draft evasion, suggesting that freezing bank accounts would disrupt everyday conveniences for those avoiding service. Meanwhile, service personnel and defense analysts urge authorities to reform corporate deferrals and medical evaluation panels to restore public trust.

At the same time, experts highlight that Ukraine is rapidly transforming its military capabilities. Although legacy Soviet command structures still present structural challenges, analysts observe that Kyiv's fast innovation cycles and technological adaptations on the battlefield continue to outpace conventional NATO development timelines.
