Ukraine accelerates domestic defense programs, including indigenous ballistic missiles and precision glide bombs, to address air defense shortages.

Ukraine is accelerating domestic arms production to address critical vulnerabilities to Russian ballistic missile attacks and reduce reliance on foreign military aid. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that two domestic companies are currently developing indigenous ballistic missiles, though mass production remains hindered by technological hurdles. Concurrently, efforts to produce U.S. Patriot air defense systems locally under license face timelines of 12 months to several years due to bureaucratic delays.

To bridge immediate defense gaps following heavy strikes on key infrastructure, Kyiv is procuring the "Equalizer" glide bomb kit, developed by DG Industry and state incubator Brave1. The system equips standard aerial bombs with wings and guidance hardware, enabling precision strikes from Soviet-era and modern Western aircraft.
