Ukraine is expanding domestic weapons development, including ballistic missiles and glide bomb kits, to address air defense shortages and Russian strikes.

Ukraine is seeking to mitigate severe air defense shortages and counter intensified Russian ballistic missile attacks by expanding its domestic arms industry. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that licensing delays and bureaucratic hurdles will postpone local production of Patriot air defense systems by up to several years.

To address immediate defensive gaps, two national defense firms are developing indigenous ballistic missiles capable of striking targets within Russian territory. Concurrently, the Ukrainian military is procuring the "Equalizer" glide bomb kit. Developed by DG Industry alongside the Brave1 defense cluster, the system converts standard aerial bombs into long-range precision munitions compatible with both Soviet-era fighters and Western aircraft like the F-16. Ukrainian defense analysts emphasize that rapidly deploying low-cost domestic alternatives remains critical while long-term production and international supply lines remain constrained.
