Ukraine is pushing to expand domestic missile and air defense production to address supply delays and ongoing Russian ballistic attacks.

Ukraine is attempting to strengthen its defense capabilities and reduce reliance on Western arms amid intensifying Russian ballistic missile strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that two Ukrainian companies are developing domestic ballistic missiles, though mass production remains hindered by technical challenges. Additionally, establishing local production of American Patriot air defense systems under license faces bureaucratic delays that could take up to several years.

To address immediate air defense gaps and offset interceptor shortages, Ukrainian forces are procuring the locally developed "Equalizer" glide bomb kit. The system converts standard munitions into precision-guided weapons compatible with both Soviet-era aircraft and Western models like F-16s. However, analysts note that domestic production cannot quickly substitute for urgent requirements for foreign air defense systems.
