The UK and Ukraine signed a military AI partnership granting British researchers access to combat data to develop defences against autonomous drones.

The United Kingdom and Ukraine have signed a bilateral defence agreement focusing on battlefield applications of artificial intelligence. Signed in Kyiv by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the pact allows British researchers access to Ukraine's Avengers AI Labs data platform. The combat footage will assist in training algorithms to shield critical infrastructure, such as power stations and transportation hubs, against autonomous drone strikes.

The agreement coincides with Ukraine's broader push to integrate robotics and automated systems along the front line to minimize military casualties. Meanwhile, global adoption of defence AI is expanding rapidly. China's People's Liberation Army has implemented specialized software to plan and coordinate automated strikes across hundreds of simultaneous targets. Former Google executive Eric Schmidt described the rapid integration of artificial intelligence on Ukrainian battlefields as a major historical turning point in modern warfare.
