Turkish prosecutors have indicted five individuals over a resolved 2024 femicide in Siirt as rights groups release August 2026 violence figures.

Turkish prosecutors in Siirt have filed an indictment against five suspects following the resolution of a two-year-old femicide investigation. The case involves the October 2024 disappearance and murder of a mother of four, identified as Akyel. Authorities resolved the case using digital footprints, phone records, and technical surveillance, charging the victim's former husband, former brother-in-law, and former father-in-law, alongside two other individuals.

The legal development coincides with August 2026 gender-based violence data published by rights monitoring organisations. Figures compiled by Bianet recorded at least 25 women killed and 71 injured. Separately, the We Will Stop Femicide Platform documented 22 femicides and 33 suspicious deaths, reporting that 55% occurred in victims' homes.
