Turkish rights monitors released August femicide figures, while a court in Siirt accepted an indictment against five suspects over a mother's murder.

Rights monitoring groups and independent media in Turkey have published gender-based violence statistics for August. According to the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 22 women were killed and 33 died under suspicious circumstances, with 55 percent of homicides taking place inside victims' homes. Independent news outlet Bianet reported that men killed at least 25 women and injured 71 others during the same monthly period.

In Siirt province, judicial authorities accepted an indictment against five suspects linked to the murder of a mother of four, identified as Akyel, who disappeared in October 2024. Prosecutors unraveled the case through digital evidence, telecommunications records, and license plate tracking. The defendants, including her former husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law, will stand trial before the Siirt 1st High Criminal Court.
