Iranian state media reported attacks on six vessels in the Strait of Hormuz as US intelligence warns of potential escalation despite Washington asserting the passage remains open.

Maritime security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified after Iranian state media claimed strikes on six vessels—comprising three commercial tankers and three American naval craft—as well as missile launches aimed at a US aircraft carrier. Responders contained a fire on one targeted merchant ship.

Despite the claims, US President Donald Trump stated that the strategic waterway remains open and described Tehran as being in "great difficulty." Conversely, American intelligence assessments suggest Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps considers itself strengthened, heightening fears of further military escalation.

The developments follow the collapse of a 14-point memorandum of understanding and ceasefire established in June, which unravelled after renewed American strikes in July.
