Tehran claims strikes on six vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington insists the strategic trade route remains open despite rising military tensions.

Maritime security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified following Iranian state media claims of strikes targeting six vessels—comprising three commercial oil tankers and three American naval craft—as well as missile launches aimed at a US aircraft carrier. Responders successfully contained a fire aboard one targeted merchant ship.

Despite Tehran's assertions, US President Donald Trump stated that the strategic waterway remains open, describing Iran as being in "great difficulty." However, American intelligence assessments suggest that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps considers its position strengthened, heightening fears of further military escalation.

The recent developments follow the collapse of a 14-point memorandum of understanding and ceasefire established in June, which unravelled after renewed American strikes in July.
