Sweden's election count shows a narrow opposition lead as the Sweden Democrats face their first parliamentary decline despite local gains.

Vote counting in Sweden’s general election points to a narrow victory for the left-leaning opposition, with projections indicating a 176 to 173 seat advantage over the governing coalition. The outcome has led the Social Democrats to demand Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's resignation.

The right-wing Sweden Democrats experienced their first national parliamentary decline, falling to 17.5 percent from 20.5 percent in 2022 after losing voters to the Moderates and younger demographics. Party official Tobias Andersson described the outcome as concerning. However, party leader Jimmie Åkesson rejected assertions of defeat, stating "there is no obvious winner in this election" while maintaining demands for ministerial posts in any right-leaning cabinet. Locally, the party achieved a record 39 percent in Färgelanda following municipal controversies.
