Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson refuses to concede following national election losses, even as the opposition leads by a narrow parliamentary margin.

Following Sweden's general election, vote counting continues as opposition parties maintain a narrow lead of 176 seats to 173. The Social Democrats have demanded Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's resignation as forecasts point toward an opposition victory.

Despite the Sweden Democrats dropping to 17.5 percent nationally from 20.5 percent in 2022, party leader Jimmie Åkesson refused to concede, stating "there is no obvious winner in this election" and maintaining demands for cabinet posts. Senior party official Tobias Andersson called the national decline troubling, pointing to voter losses to the Moderate Party and younger demographics. However, the party achieved municipal success in Färgelanda, securing a 39 percent landslide.
