Extreme heat continues across Europe, with Italy issuing red alerts, Austria breaking temperature records, and France reporting over 7,300 excess deaths.

A severe heatwave continues to sweep across Southern and Central Europe, driving temperatures past 40 degrees Celsius and causing widespread health risks. Italian authorities issued red weather alerts for all 27 major cities, including Messina and Reggio Calabria, as the country experiences its fourth major heat period of the summer. Health officials advised the public to stay indoors during peak daylight hours following four reported fatalities.

In Austria, temperatures reached a record 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna. Meanwhile, French health authorities confirmed more than 7,300 excess deaths linked to more than 50 heatwave days recorded since mid-June. Meteorologists warn that extreme heat, prolonged drought, and heightened wildfire risks will persist, with high temperatures expected to continue impacting France, the United Kingdom, and surrounding regions.
