Uncertainty remains over Sweden's next government as vote counting continues, with the opposition holding a narrow lead over the governing coalition.

Vote counting continues in Sweden following a tight parliamentary election where the opposition holds a narrow 176 to 173 seat lead over the governing coalition. In response, the Social Democrats have called on Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to resign.

The right-wing Sweden Democrats experienced their first national parliamentary decline, falling to 17.5 percent from 20.5 percent in 2022 after losing voters to the Moderates and younger demographics. SD official Tobias Andersson called the outcome concerning. However, party leader Jimmie Åkesson rejected assertions of defeat, maintaining that "there is no obvious winner in this election" while continuing to demand cabinet positions. Despite national losses, the party secured 39 percent of the vote in Färgelanda following local municipal disputes.
