Extreme temperatures continue across Europe, breaking national records in Austria and placing 27 major Italian cities under red alerts amid elevated health risks.

Extreme heat continues to sweep across Europe, triggering maximum health warnings and setting all-time temperature records. In Austria, weather authorities confirmed a preliminary national heat record of 40.8 degrees Celsius outside Vienna. At the same time, Italy has expanded top-tier red alerts across all 27 monitored major urban centers as its fourth heatwave of the season settles over the country, bringing prolonged 40-degree temperatures and prompting official warnings for residents to remain indoors during peak daytime hours.

Further north and west, parts of France and the United Kingdom are bracing for temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius, exacerbating persistent drought conditions and heightened wildfire risks. Health monitors report that consecutive summer heat spikes have triggered sharp increases in excess mortality across the continent.
