Heavy Russian missile strikes on Kyiv caused multiple casualties, prompting fresh calls for air defense systems, while US President Trump hinted at opening the Strait of Hormuz.

At least 14 to 17 people died during heavy overnight Russian missile strikes across the Kyiv region, according to regional authorities and media reports. Ukrainian forces failed to intercept incoming missiles during an air raid alert lasting over an hour. The strikes damaged residential areas and warehouses across multiple locations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated calls for Western allies to provide advanced air defense equipment, noting that interceptors "could have saved lives." Moscow maintained its forces targeted military facilities exclusively.

In other developments, Portuguese drone producer Tekever stated that any potential Russian capture of its technology poses no operational risk due to continuous system updates. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen "very soon," citing ongoing negotiations involving Iran and Oman.
