A relentless wave of extreme heat continues to affect Western and Southern Europe, causing record-breaking temperatures, severe droughts, and heightened health risks.

In Austria, meteorological officials registered a national record high of 40.8 degrees Celsius in a suburb of Vienna. Meanwhile, French health authorities reported more than 7,300 excess deaths associated with 52 heatwave days recorded since mid-June.

In Italy, the health ministry extended red weather alerts across all 27 major cities, including Messina and Reggio Calabria, as the country encounters its fourth summer heatwave. Officials warned that temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius and advised the public to remain indoors during peak afternoon hours.
