Vladimir Putin has threatened retaliation over ship seizures as North Korean missile crews deploy to western Russia and the FSB expands its domestic security influence.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened retaliatory measures against Western nations over the seizure of Russian commercial vessels, characterizing the maritime actions as "piracy" while speaking during a naval exercise.

Concurrently, Ukrainian military intelligence reported that a detachment of around 90 North Korean military personnel has begun deploying to Russia's western Voronezh region. According to intelligence official Andrii Cherniak, the unit is expected to operate six launchers and up to 120 ballistic missiles for operations against Ukraine.

Domestically, investigative journalist Andrei Soldatov observed that Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has accumulated unprecedented authority since 2022, with the Kremlin increasingly leaning on the agency for domestic oversight, wartime intelligence, and regime stability.
