Polish defense analysts warn that record spending reaching 4.81% of GDP by 2026 must be paired with institutional reforms to ensure real military readiness.

Polish military analysts and policy institutions are emphasizing that the nation's record defense spending must be matched by deep structural reforms. Poland’s defense budget is projected to reach 200.1 billion PLN in 2026, representing 4.81 percent of GDP—among the highest expenditure levels in NATO.

While recent spending has secured advanced hardware including Abrams tanks, F-35 fighters, and HIMARS launchers, reports from groups like Rozwój Plus and the Defence Institute warn that equipment alone cannot ensure deterrence against Russia. Experts highlight ongoing vulnerabilities in command structures, personnel management, mobilization speed, and procurement processes, describing the existing system as facing "strategic drift."

Analysts stress that building genuine combat readiness requires an overhaul of acquisition frameworks and deeper domestic industrial integration.
