Poland and regional allies advance transport, attack helicopter, and counter-drone procurement
Poland and regional allies are advancing major military aviation projects, including potential A400M transport purchases, an Apache service hub, and counter-drone aircraft evaluation.
Poland is progressing several military aviation initiatives to upgrade transport, attack, and air defense readiness. Warsaw has confirmed interest in acquiring European Airbus A400M Atlas aircraft to succeed its aging C-130 fleet, potentially utilizing European Union defense credit mechanisms. Poland also joined six NATO partners—Belgium, Croatia, France, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom—in signing a letter of intent to cooperate on multinational A400M operations.
Concurrently, Polish state aviation enterprise WZL-1 signed an offset agreement with Boeing in Łódź to establish a service center supporting at least 96 incoming AH-64E Apache attack helicopters. In the Baltic region, Latvia is evaluating Brazil's Embraer A-29 Super Tucano light turboprop aircraft as a cost-effective counter-drone and hybrid threat defense platform, an option also being monitored by Polish defense planners.
