Poland and NATO partners advance fleet renewals and maintenance hubs
Poland and regional NATO allies are pursuing major aviation updates, including A400M transports, an Apache maintenance hub, and counter-drone aircraft.
Poland and neighbouring NATO allies are advancing several military aviation initiatives to upgrade transport capabilities, expand maintenance infrastructure, and counter aerial threats.
Polish Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski confirmed Warsaw is evaluating the acquisition of Airbus A400M Atlas transport aircraft to replace its aging C-130 fleet, potentially utilising European Union defence financing mechanisms. Poland previously joined six NATO partners in signing a letter of intent on cooperative A400M operations.
In Łódź, Polish state contractor WZL-1 and Boeing concluded agreements to establish a regional service centre capable of maintaining at least 96 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters.
Concurrently, Latvian defence authorities are examining the Embraer A-29 Super Tucano to neutralise low-altitude drone threats and manage hybrid border airspace challenges, a platform also under evaluation by Polish armed forces.
