Tensions stay high in Portadown after police halted a restricted Orange Order parade following a massive counter-protest along Garvaghy Road.

Tensions remain elevated in Portadown following the blockade of a restricted Protestant Orange Order procession by thousands of nationalist demonstrators along Garvaghy Road.

An emergency Belfast High Court decision early Sunday morning had upheld permission for 35 parade participants to march from Drumcree Church along the historic flashpoint route for the first time since 1998. However, the march failed to proceed within its designated morning timeframe after counter-demonstrators, including Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill, gathered to obstruct the path.

Police officers intervened to stop the marchers from advancing past designated checkpoints to prevent public disorder. Discussions involving parade organizers, law enforcement, and local representatives continue as both groups remain assembled in the area.
