Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Kyiv to prepare legal and technical frameworks for future national elections once martial law ends.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on government officials to begin establishing administrative and legal foundations for future national elections, despite ongoing martial law.

Dismissed from his post by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, Fedorov emphasized that early preparation is essential to handle significant logistical challenges, including organizing voting for frontline troops, displaced civilians, and millions of refugees living abroad.

While Ukrainian law strictly prohibits holding elections during martial law and the current administration has set no timeline for lifting it, Fedorov argued that technical planning must start now to enable a prompt return to democratic processes once security conditions allow.
