Moldova plans temporary grain import licenses, raises awareness on nicotine pouches, and seizes 1.9 million contraband cigarettes.

Moldova is advancing several domestic policy and law enforcement measures targeting agriculture, public health, and illicit trade.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced that the cabinet will vote next week on reintroducing temporary grain import licensing until October 31 to support domestic farmers facing market pressures.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education launched an awareness campaign warning parents about the health risks oral nicotine pouches pose to adolescents. The initiative follows controversy over tobacco manufacturer Philip Morris introducing the product locally ahead of a June 2026 ban, claiming current legislation permits sales until June 2027.

Separately, law enforcement officers in northern Moldova confiscated 1.9 million contraband cigarettes during searches targeting two suspects, aged 56 and 66, implicated in illegal trade.
