Moldova advances measures on grain import licensing, public warnings on nicotine pouches, and a 1.9-million cigarette contraband seizure.

Moldovan authorities are advancing several domestic policy and law enforcement initiatives targeting agriculture, tobacco regulation, and contraband trade.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced that the cabinet will vote next week on reintroducing temporary grain import licensing through October 31 to support local farmers navigating market pressures.

Concurrently, the Ministry of Education launched an awareness campaign warning parents about the health risks oral nicotine pouches pose to youth. The initiative follows public concern over tobacco producer Philip Morris introducing the product locally before a scheduled June 2026 ban, with the company arguing regulations allow commercial sales until June 2027.

In a separate anti-smuggling operation, police in northern Moldova seized 1.9 million illicit cigarettes during searches targeting two men, aged 56 and 66, suspected of illegal trade.
