Moldova's ministry condemned unapproved Russian polling sites in Transnistria while the government moved to support grain farmers and restrict illicit tobacco products.

Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Russian plans to establish unauthorized polling stations in the breakaway Transnistria region for upcoming parliamentary elections, describing the move as unacceptable and an infringement on national sovereignty.

To protect local agricultural markets, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan proposed temporarily reintroducing grain import licensing through October 31. Tofan acknowledged that balancing economic impacts remains complex.

Concurrently, education authorities launched an awareness campaign regarding youth nicotine pouch consumption. The initiative follows controversy surrounding Philip Morris introducing the product locally shortly before a mid-2026 statutory ban takes effect, despite claims by the company that sales remain permissible longer.

In a separate enforcement operation, law enforcement officers in northern Moldova confiscated approximately 1.9 million contraband cigarettes during searches targeting an organized illicit trafficking network.
