Moldova condemned unapproved Russian polling stations in Transnistria while moving to license grain imports and combat illicit tobacco sales.

Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Russia's plan to open polling stations in the breakaway region of Transnistria for upcoming legislative elections, describing the uncoordinated move as an infringement on Moldovan sovereignty.

Domestically, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced plans to temporarily reintroduce grain import licensing until October 31 to safeguard domestic agricultural producers facing market pressures.

Concurrently, education authorities launched a public awareness campaign warning parents about the health risks nicotine pouches pose to youth. The campaign follows controversy over tobacco giant Philip Morris launching the product ahead of a legislated ban taking effect in June 2026, which the company argues allows sales through June 2027. Separately, law enforcement officers in northern Moldova seized approximately 1.9 million contraband cigarettes during searches targeting illicit trade.
