Lithuanian president urges calm following border security deployment

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda advised citizens against panic over military deployments near Russia, calling proactive border measures necessary.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has advised the public to remain calm after troops were deployed near the border with Russia, calling the move a preventive effort to reduce potential operational risks. He stressed that early preparation is preferable to responding after a security breach takes place.
Addressing broader defense concerns, Nausėda admitted that Lithuania's air defense system requires further improvement and noted delays in joint drone production initiatives with Ukraine. The president also expressed frustration over a recent controversy at the Ministry of National Defence, cautioning that internal disputes and poor conduct have harmed the institution's standing. In addition, Nausėda urged systemic infrastructure upgrades after a recent storm revealed operational weaknesses in national emergency preparedness.
